Dubai's crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, has launched his own web site which gives visitors access to a variety of topics including personal photos, news and poetry recited in his voice.
The site, www.shiekmohammed.co.ae, can be accessed in Arabic, English, French and soon in German.
Site supervisor, Jamal Houraib, said the site contains the prince's latest news and activities, and Dubai related news. The homepage contains a photo gallery, interviews, and an archive, Houraib told Shorouk magazine in Sharka. "It is a rich site which has an abundance of information on the prince, Dubai and the Emirates," Houraib said.
An entire section has been reserved for the poetic works of Sheikh Mohammed. Visitors can read his poetry and listen to him as he recites the poems. The site also contains studies of the Arabic language and poetry written by Sheikh Mohammed that have been translated into English and French.
The history page contains information on Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, its rulers, and a complete history of the Arab Gulf region.
The biographies of all Gulf leaders can be found on the site's history page. The photo gallery captures the sheikh in different functions. There are pictures of sheikh carrying out his political, economic, and cultural duties; there are shots of military function and sports activities.
The sheikh's sons are also portrayed in the gallery. The gallery is not exclusive to the sheikh. Photos of Emirate scholars of politics, theology, and culture are also featured. A rare photo collection of former rulers is on display. Special interest is given to sports that the sheikh is a fan of such as horse racing. An accomplished horse jockey himself, the sheikh has made sure that his site contains the latest information on horses and horse races.
The site is also a vehicle for short stories and poetry competitions. The best web page design competition offers a $10,000 award to the winner.
There are several important links hosted by the Sheikh Mohammed site, like the Ministry of Tourism and Dubai's Internet city. The site contains a visitor's log for feedback and offers special services to site members.
