Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defense Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum will on Monday night give the go-ahead for the launch of Dubai's e-government project, reports said.
The portal will go online to alter the way the public finalizes transactions with the government, and keep all services of 24 local government departments available all time around the clock, said the Khaleej Times.
“The initiative lays the foundation for a new administrative and governmental era,” said Sheikh Mohammed during his meeting with Dubai’s e-Government Executive Team in Gitex.
He also praised government employees for accomplishing the mission within the 18-month deadline that began in April 2000.
In August, government departments were in the final stages of feeding information into the portal, the Dubai-based paper said.
A month later, a number of training programs were conducted for employees at government departments and some government officials announced that the cyber law would soon come into force.
The Emirates has witnessed a major leap in the number of the IT users, in keeping with the directives of Sheikh Mohammad, who has "computerized" education in Dubai schools.
