The National Bank of Dubai (NBD) will open its first fully automated branch before the end of 2000, according to a senior official. The branch will have no permanent banking staff, but personnel will be nearby to assist customers in using the online equipment.
"Electronic banking can be defined in many ways, but for us, we define this as the delivery of banking and financial services where the customer has no need for physical presence," said Abdulfattah Sharaf, NBD's business development manager at the electronic banking division.
"We have adopted the Internet as a delivery channel. We strongly believe in customer choice and providing value, and we know we must continue to develop products, systems and services that customers want.”
NBD has just introduced a customer interactive terminal (CIT), a touch screen stand-alone terminal which allows access to the bank's website and its Internet banking service. Developed in-house, it is said to be a first for the UAE - Albawaba.com
