The Dubai Ports Authority (DPA) is focusing on creating a regional and international network of managed ports to ensure its competitiveness on the global market, said the Gulf News on Saturday.

DPA Managing Director Jamal Majid bin Thaniah said that DPA was emphasizing ports in South-East Asia, the Red Sea, India and the Mediterranean.

The DPA chief said talks were being held with the Ports Authority of India. A DPA team is looking at three major ports in India including Vizag and Mangalore, but only one will be selected, according to the paper.

DPA is managing Jeddah port in Saudi Arabia, and the port in Djibouti.

"The new trend emerging in the global market is of economies of scale and managing more ports with better expertise will yield better results," Majid said – Albawaba.com
