Thirty five children from the Abu Dhabi Special Care Centre spent an unusual field trip to the snow park at the Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates.

The supervised excursion gave the children a refreshing break from their studies and therapy sessions at the Special Care Centre, which looks after the welfare of children with physically and mentally-challenged children.

“We organised this unique event primarily to reach out to those who are less fortunate for one reason or another to enjoy the magnificent recreational facilities of Kempinski Mall of the Emirates. Just seeing the children smiling during their brief stay gives us a great sense of fulfilment. It was a wonderful sight to behold,” enthused Michael Henssler, General Manager, Kempinski Mall of the Emirates.

After the snow park, the children and their caretakers were treated to a special lunch at Sezzam, the unique restaurant concept at the Mall of the Emirates. A dedicated area in Sezzam Dining was reserved for the children where they were served a delightful selection of Sezzam’s signature dishes and delights from the now famous Steam, Bake and Flame whilst enjoying unmatched views of Ski Dubai.

While having lunch, Sezzam’s magic waiters and mime entertainers appeared to engage and amaze the kids with plenty of tricks and treats.

Gillian O'Farrell, Voluntary Fund Raising Committee member, Abu Dhabi Special Care Centre expressed her gratitude to Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates for the support saying “The Abu Dhabi Special Care Centre relies heavily on public and private sector support to sustain its operations. We thank Sezzam for hosting this fun event; play is, after all, a form of therapy so it will bring not only momentary joy to the children, but will aid in their long-term recovery process.”

The Abu Dhabi Special Care Centre, established in 1989 under the patronage of HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Nahayan, provides rehabilitation and education services to children with special needs.

“We would like to encourage the public to get involved. There are a number of ways they can help the children. We are currently actively mobilising resources for the education of our children, who have very limited possibilities for getting education in mainstream schools,” appealed O'Farrell.

The Centre currently provides 70 children of various nationalities with an education suited to their disability as well as vocational training to assist with placement of young adults into the workplace. The SCC is a self-funded, non-profit organisation that relies heavily on volunteers for the everyday running of the school and to assist with fundraising activities.
