Cement prices in UAE's local market dropped by up to 15 percent since the beginning of this year, Emirates' official news agency (WAM) reported Sunday.
Prices fell from Dh 8.5 per sack in the beginning of 1999 to Dh 7.25 per sack, the agency added.
Sources in the UAE's cement industry, were quoted by WAM as saying that, the decrease this year can be attributed to the drive by cement factories to increase production at a time when there was a lull in the construction sector.
Citing an official report, the agency said there is increasing competition between locally produced and imported cement.
