ALBAWABA - After delaying a long-awaited press conference, War Cabinet member and Israeli Minister Benny Gantz is expected to announce his resignation later today.
According to Israeli reports, War Cabinet member and Minister Gantz will be holding a press conference later today to announce his official resignation before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Gantz has been threatening to move forward with his resignation for quite some time, in protest against Netanyahu's approach towards the aggression in Gaza, in addition to the Prime Minister tanking hostage swap deals with Hamas.
On May 18, Gantz announced that he would resign from the government on June 8 if the cabinet did not formulate an action plan to secure goals, including the return of the hostages held in Gaza and the defeat of Hamas.
In a "complex daytime operation" in Nuseirat that claimed the lives of over 200 Palestinians, the Israeli force, aided by the United States, managed to free four captives from Gaza. According to a US official who spoke with Axios, the US cell in Israel "supported" the attempt to free the hostages.
The operation led Gantz to delay the press conference during which he was supposed to announce his withdrawal from the War Cabinet.
On Saturday, Israeli airstrikes targeted the Nuseirat refugee camp, regions east of Deir al-Balah, and the al-Bureij and al-Maghazi camps in central Gaza, killing 274+ Palestinians and injuring over 814 others. The strikes coincided with a rapid incursion of vehicles east and northwest of Nuseirat.
Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel
Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.
Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.
In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
