Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak began talks on Monday with Israel's acting Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami, in what Cairo is seeing as signs of movement in the peace process, the presidential palace said
"Mr Ben Ami's visit to Cairo signifies that there is something new in the (Israeli) position on the peace process," Mubarak adviser Osama al Baz told journalists ahead of Ben Ami's arrival.
He warned against excessive optimism or a misinterpretation of the visit as an Israeli concession or change of attitude but added, "There are certainly some additional points that Israel wants to clarify with Egypt."
Baz said that Egypt had no separate or different proposals than the Palestinian view, but "formulas which, we believe, express the Palestinian position while at the same time possibly enabling the breach to be filled" between the two sides.
Following his meeting with Mubarak Ben Ami was scheduled to have talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Mussa before going on to Amman -- CAIRO (AFP)
