the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization, part of UNESCO, and represented by its General Manager His Excellency Dr. Al Mounji Bousnina, granted the organisation’s highest honour, the Gold Medal, to His Excellency Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber, Chairman and CEO of MBI International and UNESCO’s Special Envoy for Education, Human Rights, Tolerance and Cultures to build peace and democracy. The award ceremony took place as part of the 100th edition celebration of “Kitab fi Jarida”, the Arab cultural project
The Golden Medal is a sign of appreciation and gratitude for the numerous efforts and tremendously effective support that His Excellency Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber has provided towards the various UNESCO projects aiming at promoting and coordinating education, culture and scientific activities in the Arab World, including educational reform, the arabisation of internet domain names and Kitab fi Jarida.
In his speech, Dr. Al Mounji Bousnina spoke of the value of Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber’s many activities in support of Arab culture. ‘The Sheikh’s bold investment and effective sponsorship is a continuation of his belief in human investment and educational reform as prerequisites for a sustainable economic reform,’ Dr Bousnina stated. He also enumerated Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber’s numerous contributions through the MBI AL JABER FOUNDATION in offering scholarships, supporting educational associations and encouraging forums for the study and understanding of the Middle East and the Arab Nations. Dr Bousnina concluded by thanking Sheikh Al Jaber for his contribution towards ALECSO’s efforts in applying the broader aspects of education and supporting scientific research in the Arab world.
In his turn, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber expressed his appreciation of ALECSO which had undertaken tremendous efforts to promote educational, cultural and scientific activities at both regional and national level in the Arab world. Sheikh Al Jaber also thanked all the Tunisians who had shown him outstanding hospitality. He concluded by affirming his support and optimism for a positive future in general but particularly with regard to education and economy.
Present at the ceremony was a large audience of personalities from the worlds of education, culture and the media. There was a special exhibition in honour of Kitab fi Jarida’s 100th edition and several people given honours including: Dr. Ahmad Assayad, UNESCO’s deputy general manager for external relations and cooperation, and poet Shawki Abdel Amir who is in charge of the “Kitab fi Jarida” project.
This cultural celebration in the Tunisian capital which paid tribute to education in the Arab world was followed by a cocktail party hosted by Dr. Al Mounji Bousnina in one of the Tunis’s prestigious hotels, leaving wonderful memories in cultural and other circles.
