Nawras, a Qtel Group company, has been honoured with the ‘Strategic Leadership Award’ at the Global HR Excellence Awards where the aim of the ceremony was to recognize the ‘Best of the Best, organised for a professional cause’. The event’s jury and council of Board members conferred the award on Ross Cormack, Nawras Chief Executive Officer, for his leadership and contribution, noting that he was a role model and believer in change.

Nawras Customer Service Director, Said Ahmed Safrar, collected the award in Mumbai on behalf of Ross Cormack. According to the organisers, the prestigious awards event saw more than 85 countries represented at the event where Nawras was the only Omani company recognised.

Nawras has totally transformed the communications landscape in Oman – first with its mobile offerings and now as it rolls out Home Broadband and Voice across the country, enabling thousands of customers to be able to enjoy pleasingly different communication choices.

Governed by the Global Advisory Council, the World HRD Congress, which announced the awards, focused on the way HR can add value to business operations, strategies to strengthen the credibility of HR management in organisations and how to enhance organisational performance to build awareness for brand leadership. Fittingly, Nawras was named Oman’s Brand of the Year 2010 by Superbrands Oman and previously received the ‘Award for Brand Leadership’ at the 18th Global Awards for Brand Excellence.

In 2005 Nawras launched as a private Omani company with just 250 people, of which the vast majority had no telecommunications experience.  Today this public company has grown almost beyond recognition to being a full service provider, counting over 900 talented professionals in the Nawras ‘family’ with more than 90% Omanisation in its mobile business.

Nawras has empowered its people through instructive courses in Oman and abroad, valuable mentoring, a wealth of online courses and on-the-job training as well as more recently, the Rawad graduate training programme.  The company believes strongly in developing people and encouraging their professional growth and career development.
