Does charity fill the economic gap in Egypt?
Charitable donations and organizations abound in the Islamic world. An annual zakat, or donation of 2.5% of one’s wealth, is one of the five pillars of Islam. So why does Egypt, a majority Muslim country, see such a shocking wealth disparity? The answer lies partly within the corrupt workings of the charitable organizations themselves.

ISIS threatens Twitter employees
It’s been widely known for a while now that Daesh, also called ISIS, has relied heavily on social media platforms to spread its message of hatred. This time, the hatred is directed toward the very people who work in social media, specifically Twitter employees. Twitter has been combating Daesh’s use of the website by blocking and suspending suspicious accounts – now, in a message uploaded to an image-sharing website, Daesh threatens Twitter founder Jack Dorsey as well as employees working for the site, saying that “when our lions come and take your breath, you will never come back to life.”

Iran wants to befriend Google
Iran’s tendency to block Google platforms inside the country doesn’t bode well for its relationship with the company. However, officials announced Sunday Iran’s willingness to allow Google operations within Iran, provided it follows a set of unspecified cultural concerns. Google has gotten on Iran’s nerves in the past, when the controversial “trailer” for anti-Islamic film Innocence of Muslims was released on Google-owned video sharing website YouTube in 2012. Though YouTube remains blocked in Iran to this day, perhaps Sunday’s announcement marks the beginning of a new friendship between internet giant Google and the Islamic Republic.
