An Israeli minister who sued a man for slandering her for nearly $85,000 will not receive the money, according to a report in Haaretz on Wednesday.

The case stems from a 2014 incident where an Israeli man called Culture Minister Miri Regev a "whore with a filthy mouth" after Regev had insulted former Israeli President Shimon Peres for remarks Peres made criticizing Israel's war in Gaza that summer, in which over 2,200 Palestinians lost their lives.

After Peres said that Operation Protective Edge had "exhausted itself," Regev said: "I say it is Peres who has exhausted himself." In response, Gili Golan, an Israeli TV executive, wrote the following on Facebook, according to a Times Of Israel translation:

“Miri Regev! Let me tell you something! Who the hell do you think you are to talk shit against Shimon Peres? You’re just a whore with a filthy mouth!!! You took way beyond [what] you’re supposed to, you illiterate miserable person!!!”

Regev's lawyers demanded that Golan apologize, and when he refused, Regev filed a lawsuit seeking 330,000 NIS (about $85,000), the Times Of Israel reported.

At a court hearing yesterday, however, a judge suggested that Golan apologize to Regev on his Facebook page, and Regev in turn publicly condemn the threats made against Golan after the controversial Facebook post. If both parties follow through with that arrangement, no financial compensation will be awarded.
