Many networks, both local and international, have been livestreaming the battle for Mosul. But one Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) official is now calling on them to stop, saying the footage is helping Daesh (ISIS).
According to ARA News, the KRG’s prosecutor wrote a letter to Rudaw, Kurdistan 24 and NRT asking them to stop their live coverage of Mosul, citing security concerns. The outlet did not name him.
ARA News says that there are concerns in the region that the coverage may give away the Peshmerga’s (military of Iraqi Kurdistan) position.
In addition to Kurdish news services, CNN, Al Jazeera and Facebook have livestreamed parts of the Mosul battle. At present, the Iraqi army and its Peshmerga and other allies are advancing towards Daesh’s largest city.
