Honeywell recently honored four students at King Faisal University (KFU) for their outstanding academic achievements. At an award ceremony held at the University, the students were presented with honorary certificates and bursaries by Bader Aldulaimi, Honeywell’s Human Resources manager for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The awards are part of Honeywell’s global academic collaboration program to promote studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) courses.  At KFU, Honeywell provides technical support, training, internships, technical seminars and sponsorships to select students at the University.

“Our partnership with Honeywell is an excellent example of academic and industrial collaboration that brings the latest technologies and industry know-how into classrooms,” said Dr. Abdul Mohsen Bin Hussein Al Arfaj, the Dean of KFU. “This program gives our students the opportunity to learn from an industry leader and Honeywell’s recognition of our most promising students will further help our academic achievement.”

As part of the program, Honeywell will also provide KFU students with work experience opportunities, provide technologies to enhance their learning experiences and drive educational workshops and lectures led by industry experts. The initiative is designed to encourage and help more of the country’s students to pursue careers in technical fields such as engineering, as well as contribute to increasing local employment.

The awards were presented to Amer Ibrahim Hassan Mohammad, Abdel Moez Abdel Wahab Omar Assamail, Abdullah Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al-Omair, and Abdel Rahman Salah Abdul Rahman Almothn.

“On behalf of Honeywell, I would like to congratulate these students on their outstanding commitment to academic excellence.” said Bader Aldulaimi. “By partnering with King Faisal University, Honeywell hopes to be able to nurture a new generation of talent that will help support the Kingdom’s manufacturing capabilities in the future.”

With a global reduction in student uptake of new STEM courses each year and a maturing workforce, Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) has developed a progressive curriculum ranging from encouraging study in STEM to on-the-job training.  Programs include the Junior Engineer Training Program (JetPro), a one-year graduate development program that graduates 40 young engineers from over 12 countries each year.  In addition, HPS’ 23 Automation Colleges worldwide offer courses designed to improve students' knowledge of Honeywell systems, and help them increase their productivity, reduce errors and minimize downtime at their sites.

The HPS annual EMEA Student Competition is designed to encourage innovation in the process industry. Every year university and technical students are challenged to create innovative and unique solutions based on Honeywell technology and tools such as its UniSim process simulation software and its OneWireless industrial wireless solution. The 2011 competition, is focused on shaping ‘The Wireless Plant of the Future’. Winners are rewarded with participation in the annual Users Group conference, where they present their ideas to hundreds of industry attendees.
