Activists online have released a hard-hitting video that tries to tie a big-name deceased actor to a grizzly end at the hands of the Syrian regime. The Facebook brigade would contraversially have it known that the Syrian actor - dubbed the Anthony Quinn of the Arab world- was tortured in his last days.
While rumors have been spinning for a while now on the exact circumstances of this celebrity death, the content emerging from YouTube offers footage of interviews with a member of the Syrian army, who openly talks about the torture afflicted on some Syrian actors.
Just one of the names featured in this video, the late actor Khalid Taja may have been tortured to death, if these allegations are to be believed.
The video suggests that Taja was apprehended for investigation by the regime's security division in Damascus. It states that he was badly tortured due to his anti-regime stance, and that he died four days into the 'investigation'.
The actor's family have been quick to deny the video's so-called revelations. Syrian film-director Sulafa Hijazi- also Taja's niece- had this statement:
"I confirm that what went out on this video on the internet about Taja's death being linked to torture is untrue".
Al Hijazi added, "The actor Khalid Taja died last year, due to his battle with lung cancer....Taja was one of the actors who demanded freedom and democracy. While he did participate in the protests in Damascus, he was not arrested nor tortured as was mis-cited in the video".
The Syrian veteran soap star died in 2012 at the age of 73, after a long struggle with cancer.
