The murder of the Lebanese singer Suzanne Tamim will be the subject of a new television drama, which tells her life story up to her untimely death. The new drama is scheduled to be aired during the 2012 Ramadan season.
Hisham Talaat Moustafa, a senior member of Egypt's former ruling party was sentenced to death for ordering the murder of Tamim after his initial trial in 2009.
In 2010 judges ordered a retrial in which he was given a 15-year jail sentence. The reason for the new trial is unclear, according to BBC.
Tamim was found with her throat slit in a Dubai hotel in July 2008.
The second retrial trial for Moustafa and another defendant, former police investigator Mohsen al-Sukkari, will begin on 6 February.
The drama was written by Tamer Abd Al Minem, who has spent the past two years working on it. At first, Tamer began writing the story for a film, but decided it was necessary to turn it into a television drama to include all important elements, he said.
Tamer has not yet received an approval from Tamim’s family to present the drama, which is a requirement before it is aired. Her father has repeatedly said that he refuses to have his daughter’s life depicted in any production.
According to the London based Elaph, once the approval is obtained the cast of the drama will be nominated.
