Matters of the heart, such as love, regret, friendship and infatuation, set to traditional oriental, Indian and western rhythms are the core of Najwa Karam’s new album Nadmaneh (I am remorseful), which was released last week by Rotana music house, according to thisiscyberia.com.
Karam’s latest album, her eleventh, contains 7 new songs, 6 of which were written by her favorite poet and composer Imad Shamessedin. The title song “Nadmaneh”, however, was written by poet Issam Zogheib, with music by Wissam Amir.
“Nadmaneh” is a song about the thin line between love and hate. It tells the story of a woman who loved her husband more than anything, but then slowly starts hating him because of his uncontrollable temper and the unfortunate fact, in her case, that love is weakened by time.
One of the most special songs on the album surely is “Ashganeh” (I am in love), which is set to a very fast Indian kind of rhythm, similar to Walhaneh (I am craving) from Karam’s previous album Aion Albi.
“Roba’ai Khomassi” (Fourth and Fifth) is also a touching song. With a strong folkloric flavor, the melody is embellished by the soft, lovely voice of Najwa Karam, who started her career by singing folkloric tunes.
The remaining “Ana Min” (Who am I?), “Al-Jar Kable Ad-Dar” (Be good with neighbors), “Maksar Assa” (Scapegoat) and “Yal-Haneit” (Longing to see us) are also good and can inspire people from all generations and backgrounds to sign along.
In short, “Nadmaneh”, Karam’s first album after her marriage, is no doubt her best so far. It delivers several excellent tunes without any weak points, according to the review – Albawaba.com
