Madonna gave an impromptu performance Wednesday night at the main memorial site for the victims of the November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris.

The 57-year-old pop icon sang three songs at Place de la Republic, shortly after giving a concert in the French capital.

Madonna, who was accompanied by an acoustic guitarist and one of her sons, sang Ghost Town, John Lennon's Imagine and her hit Like a Prayer.

"We just wanted to sing a few songs about peace to spread love and joy and pay our respects to the people who died nearly four weeks ago," she said.

The singer tweeted after her earlier performance at a concert hall in Paris: "I'll be singing a few songs at the Palace de la Republic. Meet me there now."
