Grammy Award-winning American RnB artist Ne-Yo performed in Bahrain Saturday night for the closing party of an international sports event.
The world-renowned singer, known for hits such as Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself) and So Sick, took to the stage at the Bahrain International Circuit for the after-party of the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship triathlon.
In an exclusive interview with the GDN at the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa prior to the concert, the platinum-selling artist said he was enjoying being back in Bahrain – having last visited the country to perform at the 2013 Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
“First and foremost I would like to say I’m happy to be back in Bahrain,” he said. “I have been here one time before and I had a fantastic time – the people here are very hospitable and everyone is super nice. The weather is nice and it’s a beautiful place, so I hope to keep coming back – as long as you’ll have me!”
Looking ahead to the future, the hit-maker said he was ready and willing to work with Bahraini artists.
“I am ready to make some songs with Bahraini artists, the only problem is that I don’t know any of them yet,” he said. “But the option is always there, because I’m always willing to work with anyone who started from the bottom. “The one thing that I always say when asked about pursuing a career of music, is not to be afraid of hard work.
“Nothing will be handed to you – that’s just not the case – if you want to get anywhere close to where I am you’ve got to work for it.”
His advice to aspiring artists was “sleep less, work more and don’t be afraid of the word no – because you will come across a lot of negativity and you cannot allow it to throw up walls”.
“As long as you stay ready you will never have to get ready,” he said. “You will always be prepared and will never have to prepare, it’s about making sure that you’re on top of your game at all times.
“Be ready on the spot without needing preparation – that’s the school that I come from and that’s why I’m here.”
