A beautiful friendship brought together Egyptian actors Adel Imam and the late Saeed Saleh for over 50 years. The two appeared in many plays and films throughout the decades. One of their most recent joint projects was Amr Arafa's Alzheimers in 2010.

Despite that, some have been questioning Imam's true friendship during Saleh's final days. Saleh passed away on Friday 1 August, he was suffering from severe ill health, having had open-heart surgery in 2005, a stroke in 2010 and suffering from diabetes.

According to Sayidaty.net, some accused Adel of neglecting his best bud during his final stay in the ICU in Cairo. However, Imam said that although he doesn't need to explain himself to anyone, he was actually out of the country at the time Saeed was admitted to hospital.

He went on to explain that Saeed's daughter had told him not to cut his trip short when her father died, because she was going to hold the funeral on the same day. That basically translates into: he wouldn't have had time to attend the funeral, what with flight times and all that!

The King of Comedy stressed that he won't let anyone question his friendship with Saeed, whom he described as "irreplaceable."

Adel said that Saeed was the last of his friends from the "good old days" and has many wonderful memories of them together. He added that as young actors they climbed the fame ladder and overcame many obstacles throughout their careers together.

Born on 13 July 1939, Saleh was a prominent actor who had appeared in hundreds of plays and films since the 1960s, including numerous acclaimed roles alongside Egypt’s biggest stars.
