ALBAWABA - At the 2025 Oscars, Adam Sandler made sure he was the last to laugh during Conan O'Brien's opening monologue.

The first-time Academy Awards host reprimanded the 58-year-old actor and unlikely fashion legend for his very casual outfit, which included a Hawaiian shirt, knee-length basketball shorts, and a turquoise sweatshirt, during his unexpected appearance at the ceremony on Sunday.

"Adam, what are you wearing?" Sandler retorted, "Nobody even thought about what I was wearing until you brought it up!" in response to O'Brien's question.

O'Brien joked that Sandler "dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m.," to which the comedian laughed, "You know what, Conan? I like my appearance because I'm a decent person. What I wear or don't wear doesn't matter to me. Did you feel the need to make fun of me in front of my peers because I was wearing cute gym shorts and a fluffy sweatshirt?

Sandler got up from his seat and said that he was leaving the event, but not before inviting the rest of the crowd to a very special after-party, even after O'Brien apologized for the public humiliation.

"You are all welcome to join me for a game of five-on-five basketball at Veteran Park tonight—midnight tipoff!" he announced. "Where is the man from Nosferatu? He is a member of my team. (Sandler was probably alluding to Bill Skarsgård, the 6-foot-4 star of Nosferatu.)

Sandler had one last surprise planned as he was making his dramatic exit, racing down the aisle until he came up to Timothée Chalamet, the Best Actor candidate. "Chalamet!" he said, embracing the actor from A Complete Unknown and kissing the side of his head before he ran out of the theater to thunderous cheers.

In recent weeks, Sandler has made it a practice to yell Chalamet's name, first during Nikki Glaser's Golden Globes monologue and then again when Chalamet performed double duty on Saturday Night Live.

SNL employed both O'Brien and Sandler. Sandler began writing for the NBC sketch series in 1990 and became a cast member the following year, while O'Brien wrote on the show from 1988 to 1991.

Sandler stayed on Saturday Night Live until 1995, when she starred as one of the Gap Girls and created hits including "The Chanukah Song." In addition, he and O'Brien were among the numerous gifted people who made appearances in a number of SNL specials and documentaries before the show's 50th anniversary earlier this month.
