Church bells rang across Sidon and its suburbs on Easter Sunday, with multiple masses calling for living the true meaning of the holiday.
In Sidon's St. Elias Church, Bishop Maroun al-Ammar called for encouraging communication and discussion among the Lebanese people.
“This holiday is for hope, happiness and openness so we can live together safely and peacefully,” Ammar said in his sermon.

Archbishop of Sidon and Deir al-Qamar Elie Haddad said the country’s economic difficulties and increasing corruption were comparable to Jesus’ suffering during the Holy Week.
He called on the Education Ministry to raise awareness on corruption in its curriculums, “so that our children do not think corruption is the norm.”
On Saturday, children in Sidon prepared for Easter by coloring eggs and getting ready to celebrate the holiday.
Nayla Khoury, who was preparing the eggs with her nieces, said the eggs symbolized celebrating a new life, as “the resurrection of Jesus means a new life for people.”
