With Dubai's rise in trendsetting and global marketing, you can buy pretty much anything there...and the women aren't the only people doing the shopping.
While plastic surgery is more commonplace among the females, who says women are the only gender that can be obsessed with their appearances? In 2012, almost 15,000 men had plastic surgeries in Dubai.
What were the most coveted surgeries on the list?
Emirate’s Health Authority reported that “most of the operations involved reducing fat, skin polishing and correcting face deformities”, according to the Emirates 24/7.
This is nearly double the number reported in 2011. Clearly the trend is rising. This has caused authorities to warn citizens against using unauthorized centers in efforts to limit complications.
So who are these men?
Authorities say that about 6,000 were locals from the Emirates while the rest were expats. These are drastically different numbers than the year before.
In 2011, in a report published in the Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm, the numbers included 2,000 Emiratis and 5,000 foreigners, showing a tripling in local number from 2011 to 2012.
“Patients visiting such centers should ensure they are authorized to practice this type of therapy and the doctors there are experienced enough in this field,” states the report.
