A Dubai cafe is taking the traditional cup of tea to a whole new level - by making it with 22 carat gold flakes.
Mr. Ashraf Muhran, founder and owner of the gold-speckled cafe said: "this tea has become very popular among locals and foreigners, especially Europeans".
"This tea is served in cafes in the UK , the USA, China and India. Gold tea, is a natural product which grows in Asian countries, but this is the first time it is served in a cafe in Dubai and the UAE," Muhran added.
Before served to customers, this decadent drink travels the world before it is served to customers. The tea leaves are sourced from Asia and then transferred to Germany, where they are gold plated. From Germany, it's off to Morocco where the "finishing touches" are added to the indulgent beverage.
Spilling the beans on the benefits of the tea, Muhran said: "The tea is mixed with excellent plant products and flowers so that it gets a nice scent. It is then served to the clients without any additives or colorings, which makes it a pure and natural beverage. It helps the body to relax, it gets rid of stress and the daily pressures of life. Many Europeans know this about the tea, therefore they drink it."
Although Europeans are the biggest fans of the luxurious tea, Muhran said that more and more Arabs are seeking it out in his cafe.
"At the beginning, they were apprehensive about drinking it, but now it's become a daily habit for them - they love it".
It seems that the love of gold is no longer confined to jewellery - the cafe is growing in popularity and the golden tea is the business' number one beverage.
If you want to try out some of this glamorous refreshment and are worried about the price - stop. Muhran assured customers that his prices are not affected by the gold market.
