The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons declared that Syria will miss an important deadline to destroy its chemical weapons production facilities, Reuters reported on Thursday.
Several facilities, including seven aircraft hangers and five underground facilities have yet to be destroyed, a source at the OPCW told Reuters.
Syria has until March 15th to comply with an agreement facilitated by Russia and the United States last year. Damascus declared 12 sites to the OPCW that are designated for destruction.
The missed deadline will not be Syria's first since it agreed to a deal with the United States and Russia to destroy chemical weapons and production facilities.
Earlier last month Syria failed to meet a different deadline on February 5th where it was required to ship all chemicals out of the country to be destroyed, according to Reuters.
The country has until June 30th to completely rid itself of chemical weapons, but the recent delays suggest that Western powers have had little leverage in pushing Syria to comply with the agreement.
