Employers in the UAE cannot force workers to sign documents stating they received all financial dues.
The Ministry of Labour is taking a lead in this matter and says that authorities will not issue new work permits to companies if such complaints are raised.
The government is also planning to disallow such firms to open new facilities, local media reports suggest. The step has been necessitated to protect the rights of workers. Pertinently employees have been asked to file complaints about employers who force them to sign on financial-receipt documents.
The complaints can be made within a year of the documents being signed. After studying each case and taking note of the employers' version, appropriate legal action will be initiated against the firm, only if an amicable settlement is not found.
