ALABWABA – US President Donald Trump met with Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, to discuss the future of DeepSeek, a Chinese artificial intelligence company that develops open-source large language models (LLMs).
Trump and Nvidia discussing DeepSeek
US President Donald Trump met with Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, at the White House. The meeting focused on discussing the next steps and the overall impact of DeepSeek. "I can't say what's gonna happen. We had a meeting. It was a good meeting," Trump stated.
Notably, this meeting was crucial as the US government plans to further restrict exports of artificial intelligence (AI) chips this year, ensuring that advanced computing power remains within the United States.
Previously, Trump had stated his intentions to block China’s access to AI technologies and its ongoing AI development.

Nvidia commented on the meeting: “We appreciated the opportunity to meet with President Trump and discuss semiconductors and AI policy. Jensen and the President discussed the importance of strengthening US technology and AI leadership."
DeepSeek is becoming more popular
It is worth noting that DeepSeek’s recent surge in popularity over the past week has sparked excitement in China and concern in the United States. The company is now strongly competing with ChatGPT at a much lower cost.
DeepSeek released its V3 model with significant features that outperform ChatGPT and Llama. Developers can now download and modify the new DeepSeek V3 model to perform multiple tasks, including coding and translation.
The company officially surpassed ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI, in United Stated App store downloads last week.
As a result, Nvidia's shares dropped by approximately 17%. The company is the world's largest maker of artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
Nvidia and Trump’s new regulations
The Trump administration previously announced plans to impose restrictions on Nvidia’s Chinese H20 chips.
These chips are used to run artificial intelligence (AI) software and are designed to comply with existing US restrictions on shipments to China, which were implemented by the Biden administration.
Notably, the US Department of Commerce is investigating whether DeepSeek is currently using US chips that are prohibited from being shipped to China, according to Reuters.
