ALBAWABA - A series of severe storms accompanied by heavy rains have been strucking the state of California since Sunday, resulting in floods in many areas. San Diego, California, witnessed traffic standstill due to rising water levels on some streets exceeding 50 cm.
After the storms subsided, surveillance cameras captured a woman gesturing to cars, attempting to deter them from driving towards the high water levels. Meanwhile, a Tesla Model 3 was observed approaching, seemingly unaffected by the high water levels due to its electric nature and absence of combustion chambers or exhaust systems that could be damaged by water.
Some automotive specialists anticipate Tesla to implement a system in all its vehicles to withstand high water levels, enabling them to navigate through small puddles or remain unaffected by low-level floods.
Earlier last year, a Tesla Model S 3 was seen crossing a water crossing in a rural area of England without any issues. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, had previously stated in a tweet in 2020 that Tesla cars could act as boats for short periods, emphasizing their sealed design against water infiltration. Some Tesla owners seem to take Musk's words quite seriously, as evidenced by recent events.
Video footage shows the Model S floating sufficiently to be transformed into a boat for short periods, as tweeted by Elon Musk in 2016. He even shared a video clip of the Model S swimming through a water-submerged tunnel while ICE cars appeared stuck. Earlier last year, Musk made similar claims about the upcoming Cybertruck, stating its capability to cross rivers, lakes, and even seas.
In its latest announcement, Tesla introduced two new concept cars named Cybercat and Cybercat Foiler, both capable of converting the Tesla Cybertruck into a watercraft. One of them features hydrofoils to enhance water navigation. The company designed a conversion kit from a regular car to a watercraft, allowing anyone to convert the truck into a boat with the option to fold all additional components inside the truck for convenient storage.
