ALBAWABA - Stellantis, the parent company of American Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, and Jeep automobiles, announced on Wednesday that it would spend as much as $406 million on three Michigan factories to create an infrastructure that can be employed to manufacture both electric and hybrid vehicles.

The carmaker claims it would invest more than $400 million in three Michigan factories in order to support its "multi-energy strategy," which Stellantis says it encompasses platforms, production, products, and supply chain, allowing the company to implement a broad range of electrification adoption scenarios.

The majority of the funds will go to the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP), where the all-combustion engine pickup models will be manufactured alongside the planned 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, an electric vehicle with a gas-powered range extender.

The company said that it would increase expenditure at the Dundee Engine Plant to produce its newly introduced platform for cars, crossovers, and SUV models, while additionally spending more to revamp the Warren Truck Assembly Plant to make an electric Jeep Wagoneer.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said in a statement “Sterling Heights Assembly has performed an incredible transformation in record time and I want to thank our colleagues for this great achievement,” adding that “Gearing up to build our first-ever Ram electric truck and the range-extended version in Michigan is a meaningful moment of pride for our teams.”
