ALBAWABA - In accordance with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automobile maker Stellantis, parent company of Chrysler, is recalling over 1.2 million Ram pickup trucks to address a software issue arising in the anti-lock braking system (ABS).
Along with about 159,000 cars in Canada, 13,000 vehicles in Mexico, and 61,000 vehicles outside of North America, the recall affects over 1.23 million Ram 1500 trucks in the United States that were manufactured between the years 2019 and 2021-2024.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the software malfunction might cause the anti-lock brake system control module to disable the electronic stability control system, thus failing the vehicles to satisfy federal motor vehicle safety requirements for electronic stability control systems.
According to Stellantis, in the event that the problem occurs, the indicator lights for the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Adaptive Cruise Control, and Forward Collision Warning will be lit when the car is started. This occurs because the systems are not functioning properly. Meanwhile, it said that the foundational brakes will still be functioning.
The company stated that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries that are connected to the issue as of yet, as reported by Reuters.
Stellantis has said that beginning on October 3, owners of the impacted Ram pickup trucks would get a notification via the postal service. The problem is could be fixed at Ram dealerships at no additional cost to the owners.
