The Sharjah International Airport announced a 15 percent increase in passenger traffic and a 12 percent rise in cargo management in the first quarter of 2002, reported WAM. Sharjah International Airport witnessed a small dip in passenger traffic following the September 11 attacks on the US, but the impact was minimized by the fact that most airlines using its services are Far Eastern, Central Asian, European and regional operators.

According to the airport’s General Director Ghanem Al Hajri, passengers can now be cleared within 30 minutes upon arrival at the terminal. The airport is currently renovating its control tower, replacing the existing communications system, installing a new flight information screen and setting up new car rental counters. — (menareport.com)
