Ralph Lauren will be releasing PoloTech, the all new ‘smart shirt’. with wearable technology. Ranging from Fitness bands to smart glasses, wearable technology is designed to make our daily life much better. However, popular clothing brand Ralph Lauren has taken the next step and has made the first luxury smart shirt, the PoloTech shirt. The popular company who is known for tailoring popular clothes in the market, has now started to tailor the best workouts for your body.
Although there are other smart shirts in the industry, they are primarily by sporting companies, such as Adidas. With this luxury smart shirt, Ralph Lauren wants to set a new milestone by joining the industries of wearable technology and fashion. According to David Lauren, the Polo Tech shirt will make the company the “first major luxury fashion brand” in the industry, mainly because the other companies focus on accessories such as bracelets or watches to adopt the wearable technology trend.
The PoloTech shirt was developed in partnership with OMsignal. According to Mr. Lauren, one has to keep up with the world, which is what pushed the development of PoloTech. The shirt works in a very unique way with embedded sensors that read vital signs like breathing, heart rates, stress levels and the amount of calories burned, all of which is then sent to its companion iPhone application that tailors out the workout that is best suited to the wearers body.
The shirt contains silver fibers that will track these vitals and sync them to the iPhone, iWatch or iPod Touch via a snap-on module that is attached to the rib cage area of the shirt. This module also includes an accelerometer and gyroscope, which capture movement and direction. The application will read the wearers body type and make workouts that are perfect for the wearer, even creating workouts that are more intense if it feels that the wearer’s body can take it.
The Ralph Lauren PoloTech will be available later this week and is priced at $295.
