The joint student team of the University of Michigan and Abu Dhabi University crushed 15 competing student teams from universities around the world thereby taking home the championship of the “Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge” (ADSC) which spanned over 3 days covering 1,200 km and coinciding with the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Sponsored by “Dolphin Energy”, the joint team succeeded in overtaking other competing teams after coming in third place during the first day of the challenge.

Commenting on this magnificent win, Dr. Aly Nazmy Dean of Abu Dhabi University’s College of Engineering expressed the University’s pride in partnering with the University of Michigan, especially as it is home to one of the world’s top Engineering Colleges and its Mechanical Engineering program is ranked as one of the top three in the United States. “It was a great opportunity for the 20 participating students of ADU’s Mechanical Engineering program to learn firsthand from the UM’s Solar Car Team members and gain the experience and in-depth knowledge that goes into the design, building and running of a solar car. Particularly since this is not the first win that the UM Solar Car team has achieved. We’re confident that this partnership will also expand future areas of collaboration with the prestigious University of Michigan in developing academic curriculum or organizing student and faculty exchange programs”, added Dr. Nazmy.

Expressing their joy on the achievement, Ibrahim Ahmed Al Ansaari, CEO of Dolphin Energy, said; "This demonstrates what can be achieved when you collaborate and combine teamwork with technological know-how and expertise. Congratulations to the team”.
