University of Dubai joins hands with Thunderbird to take DED managers to next leadership positions

University of Dubai (UD) and Thunderbird School of Global Management launched on September 23, 2014, a unique training program for managers in the Department of Economic Development (DED). Fifteen mid-level-to-senior managers, six of whom were women, participated in the program in Business Village in Dubai.
The program consisted of three hands-on modules designed to give the participants a strong ‘acceleration’ into their next leadership positions. The aim was to help improve their leadership and communication skills, enable them to motivate their staff effectively, enhance their presentation and networking capabilities, and help them better understand their roles as true leaders.
Dr. Essa Bastaki, President of University of Dubai, expressed the university’s appreciation in contributing to this unique training powered by Thunderbird, a leading global organization in executive education. He said: “University of Dubai’s mission is to help government entities and private organizations advance their expertise and broaden their understanding of people needs. That is why we always select best partners like DED and Thunderbird to embark on such missions.”
Sarah Schwab, General Manager of Europe, Middle East and Africa at Thunderbird, said: “We are thrilled to have partnered with UD and DED on this important leadership investment. The return on investment on leadership development is dramatically increased when senior leaders get directly involved with their team’s development. DED leaders recognize that their continued success depends on the skills and dedication of their emerging leaders. Our shared goal of increasing DED’s impact in Dubai through customized executive education is a recipe for success.”
The University’s Center of Executive Development powered by Thunderbird provides a ‘leadership toolbox’ with concepts and best practices that help participants share knowledge and experience and be more effective in their work.
The training program will be completed in January 2015. A wide range of topics will be covered during the training, including but not limited to the Leadership Pipeline, Situational Leadership, High Performing Teams, Effective Listening, Building Trust, and external company benchmarking.
