Experts in the field of digital video surveillance have predicted a boom in the technology's regional market over the coming years due to rising demand by individuals and corporations alike, according to a report that coincides with the 2012 The Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (SOFEX) taking place between the 7th and 10th of May.

The fledgling digital video surveillance market in the Middle East is valued at approximately $200 million, with the technology currently being implemented in niche markets that include Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Forecasts are showing, however, that the MEA region will register substantial growth in the development of digital surveillance technology and applications by year-end 2014, occupying 4th place worldwide with revenues that are expected to reach $23.5 billion. The same reports expect a cumulative annual market growth rate of 20.5 percent as of 2012.

Naser Majali, Vice Chairman/ Chief Commercial Officer of United Business Applications (UBA), which recently acquired a 20 percent stake in the British technology company Jabbakam, explained that digital video surveillance will quickly replace standard CCTV systems by offering more robust and adaptable solutions.

"As a provider of converged business solutions, one of UBA's primary objectives is to implement the latest in digital video surveillance technology, which is now centered on cloud-based network infrastructures."

Jabbakam utilizes a SaaS (Software as a Service) model in video surveillance, providing users with a cloud-based service that enables the creation of virtual networks of IP cameras. This intuitive interface enables IP cameras to be arranged into networks, thereby allowing individual and multiple locations to be easily monitored from a single computer or smartphone. It provides real time images and historical searches, accessible from anywhere in the world via a computer or mobile device.
