NCEMA commends ‘Risk Management’ expertise of Dubai Customs

Dubai Customs and the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority recently discussed their existing mutual cooperation framework and the scope of enhancing the level of cooperation in future.
The discussion took place after a delegation from the NCEMA Coordination Office visited Dubai Customs, in line with the framework of visits made by the NCEMA to various government departments and authorities with the purpose of coordinating the set-up of a disasters and crises register in Dubai.
The visiting delegation was welcomed by Mr. Mohammed Rashid Al Mazroui, Senior Manager of Risk Management Section, Mr. Mohammed Musabih, Senior Manager of Land Cargo Operations, and Mr. Safwan Al Suwaidi, Senior Officer - Government Partnership Division.
During the meeting, the two parties discussed issues related to crises management and emergencies preparedness; response or prevention by focusing on communication channels; and joint coordination in all aspects of emergency, crisis and disaster, for the purpose of achieving seamless integration on local and national scales. The risk management methodology and the applicable mechanism in Dubai Customs were also highlighted.
Al Mazroui stressed on Dubai Customs’ commitment to coordinate with the NCEMA and other respective bodies in this field. “Dubai Customs has a risk register that complies with the National Risk Register, which is aimed at providing updated databases of available resources and capabilities. It also aims to oversee and evaluate the national response plans for emergencies and business continuity, in coordination with respective bodies and in adherence to the National Response Plan,” Al Mazroui said.
“Dubai Customs is coordinating with the emergency response teams in accordance with the aspirations and vision of our wise leadership regarding the importance of preparedness and communication at both the local and federal levels. This is in line with the underlining aim of saving lives and protecting properties, while reaffirming NCEMA’s role in coordinating efforts between local departments and institutions in the emirate for emergency preparedness before, during and after crisis situations or disasters. NCEMA’s mission is to coordinate all national recovery efforts during such times to save lives, and protect national properties and assets, while developing the National Response Plan,” Al Mazroui added.
The NCEMA delegation was headed by Mr. Abdullah Mattar Al Qamzi, Head of Preparedness Coordination Section at the Coordination Office in Dubai, and comprised Mr. Hazeem Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Head of Planning Coordination Unit, Rashid Seif Al Ali, Head of Operations Coordination Unit, Mohammed Al Al Shehhi, Head of Response Coordination Unit, and Captain Abdullah Khamis Al Falasi from Dubai Police General Headquarters.
At the end of the visit, the NCEMA delegation expressed their gratitude to Dubai Customs officials for their cooperation and the introductory presentation they made. Moreover, they commended Dubai Customs’ efforts in implementing best international practices to contribute to increasing productivity and efficiency, particularly in risk management. The two parties agreed to make regular visits for the purpose of achieving mutual benefit and public welfare.
