Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi gives talk on leadership to Khalifa University students

Khalifa University hosted a special Leadership Day for its students on May 8th, 2012, where they were given an inspirational speech on leadership, by H.E. Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Minister for Foreign Trade for the UAE.
While addressing Khalifa University students, H.E. Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi said: “Whatever the path you take, I do hope that you keep your nation’s best interests to heart. I also hope that you will continue to hone the leadership skills that your university has taught you. Who knows, maybe one day you will stand where I am now, and inspire a new generation of leaders.”
The speech was followed by a panel discussion that was moderated by Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Khalifa University’s Executive Vice President and consisted of industry leaders, including Mr. Mohamed Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), Mr. Ahmed Ali Humaid Al Shamsi, Chief Technology Officer, Thuraya, Dr. Nawal Al Hosany, Director of Zayed Future Energy Prize and Director of Sustainability, Masdar and Dr. Habiba Al Safar, Assistant Professor, Biomedical Engineering, Khalifa University.
“This was an excellent opportunity for our students,” said Dr. Tod Laursen, President of Khalifa University, ”At Khalifa University we are dedicated to preparing our students to be the next generation of strong, creative and influential leaders of industry in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, the region and the world. By giving our students the chance to meet and talk to people who are already leaders in their fields, and of the country, we are inspiring them to strive to be the best they can be and to be leaders themselves.”
In addition to the talk, awards were also given to several students for accomplishments in academic achievement, volunteering and club participation. Certificates of recognition were given to Khalifa University students who had won external awards, such as the 14 winners of the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Awards, the UNESCO Youth Peace Ambassador, the winners of Engineering Ethics Competition, and the winners of the Mobile Application Contest (MAC), which were held recently. Awards were also given to faculty for excellence in teaching, outstanding service to the university and excellence in research.
Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President of Khalifa University added, “It’s important to recognize the achievements of our students, both academically and socially. Our students have been incredibly successful this year. They’ve been recognized, both nationally and internationally, for their achievements and hard work, and we at Khalifa University could not be prouder of them. They are the next generation of leaders, and it’s important to instill in them a sense of pride and accomplishment. These will be people who help Abu Dhabi achieve its 2030 vision and the UAE achieve its 2021 vision. They help ensure the continuing success of the UAE as a whole.”
