Khalifa University honors president’s and dean’s list students

Khalifa University held a special awards ceremony on October 23rd in its Abu Dhabi campus and a similar one on October 24th in its Sharjah campus to honor its Dean’s and President’s List students, as well as, the top students in their Preparatory Program.
The awards were given on the basis of academic merit, the students GPA, their conduct in class and their credit hours. Those earning a place on the Dean’s list boasted a GPA of 3.5 or higher and those who made the President’s list had earned a 3.8 or higher.
In total 72 students made the Dean’s list and another 72 made the President’s list. An additional 19 students received recognition for their achievements in the Preparatory Program.
“We are very proud of our students,” said Khalifa University’s Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Bayan Sharif. “Khalifa University believes that it’s important to recognize the achievements of our students. Our students have always proven themselves to be incredibly successful academically, and in their personal lives. They are hardworking, driven individuals who will no doubt turn into the next generation of leaders, and a driving force for the growth of the nation.”
“Our students are some of the brightest minds that the UAE has to offer and our course offerings reflect that.” said Khalifa University’s President, Dr. Tod Laursen. “Khalifa University provides its students with world class professors and research facilities and equipment, so that they can compete on an international level with some of the best minds from around the world. The end result of our efforts will undoubtedly be a generation of highly educated graduates who will contribute effectively to Abu Dhabi’s 2030 Vision.”
In the past year Khalifa University students have received a number of national and international awards. Most recently five of its students and three of its faculty members received the 2012 Young Emirati Researchers Award and the 2012 Young Emirati Innovators Award from the UAE National Research Foundation.
Earlier this year, 14 Khalifa University students won the Prestigious Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Awards for Best Project. The members of the Design/Build/Fly Team were given the prestigious award for their hard work. This team was also awarded first place at the Made in UAE 2012 competition.
Khalifa University students were also presented with the Prestigious Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Awards, for Distinguished Academic Performance, where three of them walked away with the honor.
A Khalifa University student was named the UNESCO Youth Peace Ambassador and another student won the Best IT Student in the Middle East Award.
Two Khalifa University students also became the UAE Representatives to the World Business Dialogue at Cologne Germany Award.
A Khalifa University student team won the Intellectual Property Rights Competition initiated by Dubai Customs, while others were awarded the top prizes at the Engineering Ethics Competition.
Moreover, Khalifa University students won the Second Annual Math Competition, which was organized by the University. Other students were named the winners of the Oxford University Press Short Story Competition, and two students came first and fourth at the 2012 Mobile Application Contest.
