Khalifa University wins first place in Engineering Students Ethics Competition 2012

Khalifa University students took the top prize at the fourth Engineering Students Ethics Competition 2012 (ESEC2012) which was held at Khalifa University. The event was organized by Khalifa University and the Khalifa University IEEE Student Branch, and was sponsored by Emirates Advanced Investments (EAI). 

The aim of the competition was to provide engineering students with the opportunity to demonstrate their appreciation of ethical issues and responsibilities, as well as, foster familiarity with the IEEE Code of Ethics and ethical concepts, promote a model for discussing and analyzing ethical questions, provide experience in applying ethical concepts to typical professional situations, and to enhance engineering students’ understanding of their ethical duties as professionals. 

Six teams from three major institutions in the UAE participated in ESEC2012. These were: Khalifa University, UAE University, Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST). 

The first prize in this year’s competition was awarded to Khalifa University team two consisting of Azza Abdulla Rashed A.A. Alneaimi, Shaimaa Saeed Mohamed Hefaity and Ehab Najeh Kamil Salahat. The second prize was awarded to UAE University team one consisting of Noura Eisa Ali Hassan Ali Matroushi, Hafsa Pervez Hussain Butt and Heba Mighni Gawish. Third prize was awarded to Ajman University of Science & Technology team one consisting of Sewar Bassam, Fareeha Ali and Sameen Anwar.

Dr. Arif Sultan Al-Hammadi, Khalifa University’s Executive Vice President, said: “I would like to congratulate the winning teams of this year’s event. We believe that the challenges this competition provides will greatly assist students as they prepare to enter the job market after graduation”. 

The panel of judges for this year’s competition consisted of Dr. Kasim Rashid from Al Ghurair University (Chair), Dr. Fadi Aloul from American University of Sharjah and Mr. Mahmoud Abu Shammeh from University of Sharjah.
