Khalifa University announces new dean for the college of engineering

Khalifa University announced today that it has appointed a new Dean for its College of Engineering and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Bayan Sharif will join from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Sharif boasts an impressive background in the field of engineering with over 25 years of experience in an academic setting.  He has previously worked as the Head of the School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering at Newcastle University, United Kingdom.

While in that post he was also the Director of Digital Communications, Chair of the Board of Examiners, and Head of the Communications and Signal Processing Research Group (CSP). As Head of CSP, he oversaw the establishment of a research lab dedicated to Sensors, Electromagnetics and Acoustics (SEALAB).  

Dr. Sharif graduated with a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland and previously taught at Khalifa University in Sharjah for the 2002/03 academic year.

In commenting on this appointment, Dr. Mohammed Al-Mualla, Interim Provost and Senior Vice President for Research and Development, said: “Dr. Sharif has a very impressive record of over 300 published works in the world’s leading journals and conferences. He has a very strong track record in research and development and in attracting research funding and working with industry. He has worked closely with students in his capacity as Head of the School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering since 2005. Dr. Sharif has supervised the research of and offered academic guidance to over 50 Doctorate and Master students at Newcastle University.”
