The Department of Economic Development – Ajman (DED-Ajman) recently took part in the opening ceremony for the Ajman Living Lab, which was recently held in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman. On the sidelines of the event, H.H. Sheikh Ammar also launched the new 'Certified Agent for Economic Licenses' initiative, which was inaugurated in the presence of His Excellency (H.E.) Ali Eissa Al Nuaimi, Director General, DED-Ajman and H.E. Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Nuaimi, Assistant Director General for Economic Registration and Control, DED-Ajman.

The new project aims toward developing an integrated mechanism for the issuance of economic licenses in Ajman-- a system that looks to provide and complete economic transactions through an agent certified in the system. The project contributes to the promotion of competitiveness among the economic licensing departments across all departments of economic development in the country. The system has been designed to improve the performance of the licensing divisions via the provision of efficient time for employees to manage their work assignments, where data can be entered in by an authorized agent, while the accreditation will only be approved by the DED's customer service centres. At the same time the new system eases the workload of the customer service centers of the Department. The system of booking the trade name through electronic services was also presented, which effectively reduces the period of completion of the transaction within ten minutes, and the opinion of the clients and their suggestions about the system were noted.

H.E. Ali Eissa Al Nuaimi, said, “We are all working constantly to develop all our services, especially the services provided to investors in the emirate. This new project is part of our continuous efforts to provide the best services that facilitate business and enhance the economic environment. DED-Ajman aims to enhance the operational efficiency of our services and provide a unified system of economic licensing procedures that helps regulate the work of certified agents and link them with customer service centres, which provides a flexible service environment that suits the business community in Ajman.”

The system allows the renewal of the commercial license within minutes and through multiple centers to provide economic services. It also reduces human errors and enables auditors to complete economic licensing procedures without a review from the department.

Background Information

Department of Economic development-Ajman

The boom of Ajman’s now well established and highly competitive economy began with the Department of Economic Development (DED), a division of the Municipality and Planning Department, before it became an independent local authority in 2011. During that year, H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Ruler of the Emirate of Ajman and a Member of the UAE Supreme Council, issued Emiri Decree No. (1) on the reorganization of the DED in Ajman to achieve the emirate’s sustainable economic development as well as create a fair investment landscape and consumer environment to attract national and foreign investments. The reorganization also sought to provide adequate information and data on the economic activities and investment opportunities in the emirate.
