The American Corner of Abu Dhabi City (ACAD) located at ALHOSN University, in collaboration with ALHOSN University Sports Club, announced today it is sponsoring a Charity Bazaar and Banquet for Friends of Cancer Patients as part of its Eid Al-Adha celebrations. The charitable initiative, which is open to the public, commenced with the Charity Bazaar on Tuesday (October 23, 2012) at the ALHOSN University female campus and will conclude with the Eid Al-Adha Banquet tonight (Wednesday, October 24) at the University’s Library Garden.

Proceeds from the fundraising events will go to the Friends of Cancer Patients foundation. Special guests from the Health Authority Abu Dhabi, First Gulf Bank and Friends of Cancer Patients are attending the events.

“This Banquet is a meaningful way to celebrate Eid Al-Adha. It gives us a better perspective of the true essence of this special occasion. We have received very positive feedback from the community towards this project and this greatly inspires us to organize more charitable initiatives in the future. ALHOSN University remains fully committed to be actively involved in various projects that ultimately benefit the society, in line with our mission to contribute to the positive transformation of the society through academic excellence and civic-oriented initiatives,” said Prof. Abdul Rahim Sabouni, Vice Chancellor, ALHOSN University.

The first day of the initiative kicked off with a “Best Arabic Sweets Contest” at the ALHOSN University female campus, followed by a Breast Cancer Awareness presentation from Friends of Cancer Patients at the American Corner of Abu Dhabi City and then the Eid Al-Adha Bazaar, which offered baked goods for donations and sale items including electronics, clothes, accessories, games and furniture.

Tickets for the Eid Al-Adha Banquet, on the other hand, cost AED 60 each, with all proceeds going to Friends of Cancer Patients. Volunteers at the American Corner will also sell used books and offer face painting for children in the community.

ALHOSN University was named after Abu Dhabi’s historic ALHOSN Palace and founded in 2005 by the Abu Dhabi Holding Company. It accepts students of all nationalities as well as youths with special needs. The university is known for its holistic approach to education and its nurturing of technical and engineering talents.
