Abu Dhabi University awards winners in 3rd Annual Chancellor’s Innovation Awards

The four winning teams of Abu Dhabi University’s 3rd Annual Chancellor Innovation Awards were announced yesterday during a closing ceremony held on the University’s Abu Dhabi campus. Titled “Make A Difference”, the awards aim to encourage the creative spirit of the University’s staff, faculty & students and enhance the culture of innovation through recognizing the most innovative ideas submitted within the award’s five themes. The themes, which were identified based on their strategic importance to the University’s growth include: Enhance Quality of Customer Services, Student Recruitment, Increasing external support for academic or non-academic activities at Abu Dhabi University, Innovative strategies that will and Community engagement. 

Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim stressed the University’s keenness in organizing the awards as they represent an excellent opportunity for students, staff and faculty to contribute to the development and advancement of Abu Dhabi University. “The awards also encourage participants to think outside the box, and present projects that enhance the institutional effectiveness of Abu Dhabi University, and allows the University to benefit from their creative views on how the we can continue to achieve higher standards of excellence”, added Dr. Nabil. 

“Since its inception three years ago, we made certain that the criteria of project submissions to the Chancellor’s Innovation Awards ensure the successful implementation of any of the winning projects. Some of these entail that the teams consist of three to five members including students, staff and faculty working together. Each participating team must submit a final report including further details on the Project scope, methodology and timeline of implementation, expected results and analysis of main findings in addition the impact and outcome their project might have on the University and the community”, explained the Chancellor.

He noted that the response of submitted projects to the awards was awe-inspiring, and although 4 teams only won, all the projects submitted were extremely innovative.

Sarah Al Hashmi, Sulagna Sanyal, Stephen D’Cunha, and Owais Aamir won first place and a prize of Dh20,000 for their idea of a diversified program to increase community support for the student body at Abu Dhabi University. 

“CGOC” was the title of the project that took second place and a prize of DH15,000. The concept developed by Dr. Salam Abdallah, Dr. Mohammad Behery , Bushra Jaleel features an online smart interactive game that provides students with an entertaining and quick experience in online career guidance. 

To encourage student to be more involved in their community, Dr. Jacob Chacko, Dr. Rubina Qureshi, Hanadi Khalil, Trevor Moore, and Dr. Raed Al Mesbahi developed the idea of “Passport to success” which won third place and a prize of DH10,000. 

The Chancellor’s Innovation Awards also recognized Anil Hingorani, and Shailesh Thakur from Al Futtaim Technologies who won first prize of DH20,000 in the external awards category presented to the University’s community partners for their project on enhancing the quality of customer services.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Unlike other colleges and universities in the UAE, ADU undertook the measures necessary to ensure that all of the degree programs it would offer had secured accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in advance of any students enrolling in them.
