Abu Dhabi University to launch First Annual Research Conference

Abu Dhabi University’s College of Research and Graduate Studies will launch its “First Annual Research Conference” on Tuesday, June 5th. Titled “Community Partaking in Research and Development”, the one-day conference will feature renowned scientists from the UAE, and a total of 56 research studies that were conducted at the University by more than 122 students and faculty.
The conference which is sponsored by ADNOC and Gulf Scientific - Abu Dhabi, aims to inspire closer cooperation on scientific research between the University and various public and private institutions. It also seeks to promote awareness of the importance of scientific research in the development and dissemination of knowledge in society.
Dean of College of Research and Graduate Studies, Professor Abdel-Mohsen Onsy stressed that the "First Annual Research Conference" is an excellent opportunity for different sectors to learn about the leading role Abu Dhabi University plays in the field of scientific research and community service. “The conference also provides an outlet for 42 students from our undergraduate programs, 10 students from our masters and doctoral programs, in addition to 70 faculty members to present their findings in a wide range of research papers and studies. These studies address issues such as: environment health and safety, public health, renewable energy, education, modeling and simulation, government policies and urban development, the environment and water sources, information technology, engineering management, and the effect of globalization”, added Prof. Onsy.
Prof. Onsy explained that participants in the conference were keen to link their research to the needs of the community, thus creating a unique opportunity to form research partnerships with interested organizations. “The College of Research and Graduate Studies has now become an active participant in the international research network and is focusing its efforts on forging strong partnerships with the private and public sector in the UAE”, said Prof. Onsy. He also added that Abu Dhabi University is ready to develop specialized research projects that meet the needs of both government and private sectors.
Shireen Al Romaithi, Head of Planning and Follow Up in Group National Recruitment Department in ADNOC said: “In line with the company's eagerness to play an active role in the progress and prosperity of the UAE, ADNOC is committed to supporting research activities throughout various educational sectors. Universities are responsible for remarkable growth in the amount and type of scientific research that contributes to the advancement of the country”, said Al Rumaithi. She added that support from ADNOC Group will also allow ADNOC to use research finding to its advantage and to the benefit of the country.
On his part, Essam Youssef, Director of Sales at Gulf Scientific - Abu Dhabi pointed out that the advancement of scientific research taking place at Abu Dhabi University is the reason that Gulf Scientific is supporting the University.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Unlike other colleges and universities in the UAE, ADU undertook the measures necessary to ensure that all of the degree programs it would offer had secured accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in advance of any students enrolling in them.
