Abu-Ghazaleh heads to Geneva to participate in the first WTO Panel on Defining the Future of Trade meeting

Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) is heading to Geneva to take part in the first meeting of the WTO Panel on Defining the Future of Trade which was established during the WTO's 8th Ministerial Conference.

The meeting will discuss the elements which define the changes in the World Trade System and future challenges.

It will also tackle geographical changes in productivity and investment, job opportunity and growth, bilateral trade agreements, technological advancement and obstacles in addition to others.

Abu-Ghazaleh will also meet the permanent delegates of the Arab Group at the World Trade Organization under the chairmanship of the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar, to exchange views and ideas before the meeting.

These ideas were discussed during the UNCTAD meeting which was held recently in Doha under the patronage of HE Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Qatar's Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage and in the presence of Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, secretary general of UNCTAD, Abu-Ghazaleh and WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy and a host of ministers and experts.

The Doha meeting discussed cooperation and partnership in trade and development including the cooperation between north and south and cooperation between south and south and other trilateral cooperation.

Director-General Pascal Lamy announced on April 13, 2012 the composition of a panel of 12 WTO stakeholders including Abu-Ghazaleh he has charged with examining and analyzing challenges to global trade opening in the 21st century. The “WTO Panel on Defining the Future of Trade”, will meet several times in 2012.
