Abu Dhabi University family celebrates UAE’s Flag Day

Symbolizing the unity and solidarity of the nation and its wise leadership, over 500 students, faculty and staff of Abu Dhabi University joined the nation-wide celebrations yesterday (3rd of November) of the UAE’s Flag Day, hoisting the UAE’s flag at noon on the University’s Abu Dhabi campus and reciting the pledge of allegiance to their beloved nation and its wise leadership. The celebrations which kick start the University’s commemoration of the UAE’s 44th National Day also coincide with the anniversary of the presidency of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim, stressed the University’s keenness in celebrating this joyous annual occasion, as it plays an important role in instilling the values of loyalty and allegiance to the country’s wise leadership. “Hoisting the UAE’s flag allows our students to express their pride in their national identity, and symbolizes the unity of the nation in peace and justice. Flag Day has always been the building block that kick starts our celebrations of the UAE National Day, where every member of our Abu Dhabi University family joins in the celebrations as a testament of their appreciation of the UAE’s role in embracing various cultures and emphasizing the importance of coexistence, tolerance and acceptance of others”, explained Dr. Ibrahim.

Addressing the audience during the flag hoisting ceremony, Ahmed Al Shemely, an “Etihad Airways” cadet and a student in ADU’s College of Engineering majoring in Aviation said: “Flag Day embodies the values of cohesion between the nation’s wise leadership and its people. It represents our unity and allows us to reaffirm our allegiance our leadership and our loyalty to our beloved homeland. The UAE’s flag is not just a piece of cloth; it is a symbol that is engraved in our hearts and touches our souls and which we will defend with all our might”.

Expressing similar sentiments, Al Onood Khalfan, also an “Etihad Airways” student in ADU’s College of Engineering majoring in Aviation said: “Our celebrations of Flag Day also allow us to express our appreciation and gratitude to our ancestors and the UAE’s founding father; the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan who put in place the strong foundations of our prosperous beloved UAE”.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Unlike other colleges and universities in the UAE, ADU undertook the measures necessary to ensure that all of the degree programs it would offer had secured accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in advance of any students enrolling in them.
