ALBAWABA – Nintendo, the Japanese multinational video game company, has announced a collaboration with Samsung, the South Korean electronics giant, to develop chips for the upcoming Switch 2 console.

Nintendo and Samsung collaborates

The two companies have partnered to produce the main chips for Nintendo’s Switch 2, as Nintendo aims to sell around 20 million units in the coming year. Notably, Samsung will manufacture a customized chip originally designed by Nvidia, the American multinational technology corporation.

The deal is seen as a win for both companies, especially as Samsung competes with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), a Taiwanese leading multinational semiconductor manufacturing and design company.

Nintendo reportedly received around 2.2 million pre-order applications for the Switch 2 in Japan alone, and is aiming to ramp up production to 20 million units by March 2026. (Shutterstock)

Samsung and Nintendo are expected to benefit equally from this major deal, boosting both their businesses and sales. According to experts, Samsung is currently working on an 8-nanometer chip originally designed by Nvidia.

It is worth mentioning that Samsung previously supplied Nintendo with NAND flash memory and OLED screens, and has been a strong competitor to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in the race to supply nano chips.
