Jordan and Iraq confirmed during a recent meeting of the general assembly of the Iraqi-Jordanian Land Transport Company a plan to renew the company's fleet and ways to minimize its financial losses, reported the Kuwaiti News Agency KUNA. The assembly, which confirmed the company's budget for 2005, decided to purchase new trucks and semi trailer. The Iraqi ransportation minister, Louei al-Aris, who signed the protocol of the general assembly with his Jordanian counterpart, Saud al-Nuseirat, said that the security situation in Iraq is getting better, mentioning that transporting of basic commodities from the Jordanian port of Aqaba to Iraq will be resumed soon.
It should be mentioned that Iraqi-Jordanian Land Transport Company was established in 1980 with a $70 million capital, and its fleet includes at present 280 trucks, most of them transporting phosphates inside Jordan.
