ALBAWABA – Multiple users have reported overnight being abruptly signed out of their Apple ID accounts, being promoted to reset their passwords once they tried to login, and even having to wait an hour before they can attempt to login again, The Verge reports, all without a clear reason.

Many users on social media claim that they were prompted to change their password in order to access their Apple IDs on many devices, it is unclear however, whether there were widespread problems with this since Apple's System Status homepage doesn't currently list any faults with any of its services.

According to 9to5Mac and Forbes, some of their own staff have also been affected by the issue and been unable to access their Apple ID accounts for no apparent reason, with 9to5Mac reporting that users are losing passwords they previously set up for individual apps using iCloud once they change their Apple ID password.

Users with Stolen Device Protection enabled, which is an Apple security service that puts a delay on sensitive account settings changes while the user is away from their home address, have reportedly had an inconvenience caused by the issue, as some were not able to access their accounts until they were back home.

One user (@niclake on Mastodon) has attempted to contact Apple’s support for information, however the only reply he was able to get was “sometimes random security improvements are added to your account,” without being provided any further details on the issue.

“This seems like it is a genuine bug as so many have been involved. Although a pain, it is actually often a good idea to reset all connected devices and change a password every so often or when there has been a data breach,” Jake Moore, a global cybersecurity advisor at ESET has said as Forbes reports.
