ALBAWABA – Bluesky, the microblogging platform and main rival to X (formerly Twitter), has launched blue checks for trusted accounts.
Bluesky launches blue checks
The famous microblogging platform and X’s viral launched blue checks for verified accounts. “Proactively verify authentic and notable accounts and display a blue check next to their names. Trust is everything,” the company stated in a blog post.
Notably, Bluesky is still competing with X (formerly Twitter), the American microblogging and social networking service. Elon Musk originally kicked off the verification trend when he acquired Twitter in 2022.
Bluesky is not currently accepting direct verification applications. However, a request form will be launched soon. (Bluesky)
It is worth noting that Bluesky was founded in 2019 by Jack Dorsey, one of Twitter’s co-founders. The project launched in 2023, following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, and now has over 30 million users.
How to get verified on Bluesky?
The company stated on its official website that users can now self-verify their accounts by linking their personal domains to their profiles.
This means that large organizations that are verified can grant verification to individuals under their umbrella. For example, The New York Times could act as a trusted verifier and verify journalists who work within the organization.
Bluesky also noted that it is not currently accepting direct verification applications. However, a request form will be launched soon for users who want to become verified or serve as trusted verifiers.
“Now, we’re introducing a new layer — a user-friendly, easily recognizable blue check. Bluesky will proactively verify authentic and notable accounts and display a blue check next to their names. Additionally, through our Trusted Verifiers feature, select independent organizations can verify accounts directly. Bluesky will review these verifications as well to ensure authenticity,” Bluesky stated.
